Zoom & Stuff

So I’ve decided to give up typing complete posts. Its far too annoying to be doing regularly and I have a video camera for a reason. So now you have to put up with me talking to you for a good 5 minutes at a time.

As mentioned in above video I’ve been messing with sampling on my new Zoom H2. I’ve used my acoustic guitar to make these playing one note at a time and then putting together in a multi track in Audition.

Guitar Samples by Aidan Cornelius-Bell

Oh look a post!

Yeah. So It’s been a while. I don’t really have a lot to write about and due to the fact that I’m now back at TAFE there is a lot more demand for me to do work more often rather than slacking off and writing on this blog.

I recently purchased the BBC documentary “Planet Earth” on Blu-Ray from Amazon and got that yesterday, It has stunning graphics with its (near) full HD. Haven’t really had time to watch it yet but I’ve skimmed.

I also got a Central Splitter installed in the insane hope that it might vaguely increase my ADSL speed. Of course the guy who installed it just put it on the second pair instead of laying new cable so nothing good came of it. I’m still syncing at 4300 – 5100 (KB). So there’s another waste of a perfectly good $200.

What I will say on that is it does rule out future issues related to Telstra. If they think its a fault in the splitter or that my lines aren’t properly being filtered then they are indeed wrong!

A word of advice: Simon Hackett recently released a guide on how to increase your ADSL(1/2) speed on the Internode blog. One of these methods include what I did above. Read that section of his post VERY well – We installed a central splitter because we had more than 2 phones and bad line noise (which is now gone). Don’t rush out and get a central splitter installed if you only have 1 phone/router installed!

(Though I’ve known about this for a while) The ADSL1 limit in the line profile settings (either router side or dslam side) works perfectly provided your sync is below 5000. If you are getting anything from 3000-5000 KB sync switch your line profile to ADSL 1 (or use your router) and you could go from that to 4000 – 8000 KB.

Side Note: I just fixed all the old links to cdn. and aidan. so videos and links should work. Except those that were destroyed in the fire of 2008 (ahh rm -rf).

Thats all for now anyway. I may actually post something interesting later :D

Transfer Success

Well. After that long and painful ordeal the Beaconsfield IT website is back in its rightful place on the internet. We’re still doing domain registration for under A$20 – So get in there now!

This morning – kinda early – the domain transferred to my OpenSRS account from Domain People at the outer limit of the maximum time frame they had to complete it in. Clearly they don’t like to loose business.

The website is now /finally/ back and functioning correctly. Check it out @ http://www.beaconsfieldit.net/

BeaconsfieldIT.net

If you’ve been reading my blog recently you will know that I am now a domain registrar but if you look back before that time I’m going to give you the whole story!

I hold the ownership of 2 domains for my company Beaconsfield IT. These domains are notovanus.net and beaconsfieldit.net. Through these domains my company sells hosting, web design, graphics design, SSL certificates & domain names.

beaconsfieldit.net was registered through “IntaServe AU” who resells through “Domain People, Inc” – / Credit to IntaServe they respond to support requests, Unfortunately they got no more response than I did. /

notovanus.net is registered through “Media Temple” who resells through “Tucows” (as) “OpenSRS” – / Who transferred within A day!  /

About 5 weeks ago we transferred ALL of Beaconsfield IT’s clients INCLUDING Beaconsfield IT to a new (Dedicated) cloud server (mirror VPS – Rackspace). In this time some (very few) clients experienced some lag (of up to 12 hours) accessing their websites as their DNS records were transferred to the new servers IPs.

99% of our clients transferred without any strange interruptions or email bounces. Unfortunately “beaconsfieldit.net” has not transferred – We updated the DNS settings the day before all our clients and yet it is still pointing at the old server (ns1.mediatemple.net, ns2.mediatemple.net). The records have valid names and IPs entered yet having now been 5 weeks they have not transferred.

At this point I started to get annoyed. I contacted the registrar (after trying several different configurations) who did not reply, I contacted the reseller who told me they were contacting the registrar I have received no reply. So I became an accredited registrar because A) I wanted my domain to work;  B) I didn’t want other people to have to go through this pain!

I then entered a transfer request with my new registrar (OpenSRS). I received the email confirmation link entered my domain key (and Unlocked my domain). Now OpenSRS reports they are waiting for Remote Registrar.

Oh boy this is so much fun! Please don’t try it at home kids!

With any luck beaconsfieldit.net will be back within the next week and all will be sorted. Fingers Crossed!

Re-Layouted my living room

The Desk and a delicately balanced speaker!

The other side. With the 'storage-like' piano.

The other side with crap piled up on the piano.

I will just quickly note that I forgot to straighten up that picture in the corner after the cat tried to jump on it. So that’s why the picture looks kinda lop sided. If you have any questions about the stuff I have here leave a comment :P
